Essential oils safe for children

by Liliana Santos

While essential oils can be beneficial for many adults, it's important to use caution when using them on children. Some essential oils can be irritating to sensitive skin or cause allergic reactions. Additionally, children may be more susceptible to the side effects of essential oils as their bodies are still developing.

Before using essential oils on children, it is important to consult a qualified healthcare professional, such as a pediatrician or aromatherapist, who can advise on safe use and proper dosage.

Some essential oils that are generally considered safe for use on children are:

  1. Lavender - has calming properties and can help calm and relax children.
  2. Roman Chamomile - is calming and can help relieve anxiety and tension.
  3. Tangerine - it's gentle and can help lift mood and improve energy.
  4. tea tree - has antifungal and antibacterial properties and can help prevent infections.
  5. Eucalyptus - can help decongest the airways and relieve coughs and colds.

Always remember to dilute essential oils in a vegetable oil, such as coconut oil or sweet almond oil, before applying them to children's skin. Never apply essential oils directly to a child's skin. Also, avoid using essential oils near children's eyes, nose, and mouth, and never let children ingest essential oils.
